SRINAGAR—–Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was on Friday placed under house arrest while JKLF chairman Yasin Malik was arrested to prevent them from leading protests against braid chopping incidents, said a spokesman.
He said that a posse of policemen arrived at the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz and placed him under detention.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik was also arrested from his residence in Srinagar.
A spokesman of the outfit said that a police party raided the Maisuma residence of Malik and took him into custody.
“Malik Sahab was arrested to prevent him from leading protests against unabated braid chopping in Kashmir,” he said.
The Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for protests after congregational prayers today against the braid cutting incidents.
JRL has blamed the government forces for unabated braid-chopping cases.
