SRINAGAR, FEB 24 —-Indian Army on Friday claimed to have foiled an attempt by a Border Action Team (BAT) to attack its posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
A spokesman of Army’s 28 DIV in a statement said, “Alert soldiers manning the fence in Tangdhar foiled the BAT action by engaging the militants in a gunfight that lasted for an hour.”
“In its continued efforts to destabilize the situation along the LoC and target Indian army posts, a BAT team comprising militants and actively supported by heavy shelling using mortars and other weapons from multiple posts tried to raid a forward post at Tangdhar in Kupwara district,” he said.
“Soldiers detected the movement of the BAT team which was trying to creep towards Indian post under the cover of heavy fire. The attempt was repulsed,” the statement said.
“Pakistan army posts tried to damage the Indian posts but failed in their designs due to the tough retaliation by the Indian army,” it added.
Meanwhile, exchange of fire and mortar shelling between the India and Pakistan armies continued for third consecutive day on Friday near the LoC at Tangdhar, creating panic among the residents.
A source said, “Pakistan army targeted forward line posts including Bukhari post, Ragni post, Kana post, Toli post and Jabdi post which are located close to LoC.”
