SRINAGAR, May 27: A soldier and a civilian were killed after militants attacked an army camp in Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday night.
Reports said that suspected militants opened fire at the army’s 50 RR camp at Kakapora around 10:15 pm.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary, according to GNS news agency, said that the militants fired upon the army camp late in the night.
The fire was retaliated by the army, leading to a brief shootout.
In the incident, a soldier and a civilian were injured, said Choudhary, adding that the civilian suffered a bullet injury.
The injured were rushed to the hospital where a civilian identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganie- sumo driver by profession–son of Muhammad Ramzan Ganie of Narwa Pulwama and a soldier succumbed to their injuries.
An army’s Srinagar based spokesman said: “Militants carried out a stand-off attack at Kakapora camp and killed a soldier. Retaliatory action is going on.”
