SRINAGAR, JUNE 23: A youth was wounded after government forces opened fire during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Daramdora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Reports said that army personnel of 44 RR, CRPF and SOG men laid a siege around Daramdora village and started door-to-door searches.

“Some youth pelted the forces with stones and bricks during the searches. The forces, in response, opened fire, causing injuries to a youth,” said a police official.

The injured youth was identified as Jahangir Ahmad Lone.

“No contact was yet established with the militants believed to be hiding in the village,” said the official.

Meanwhile, mobile Internet service has been snapped in the area.
