Army ‘Thrashes’ Youth, ‘Vandalises’ Property During Night Searches In Shopian Village

SRINAGAR, JULY 02: A youth was injured after government forces allegedly thrashed him during last night searches in Kundalan village of Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Locals of the area said last night army’s 34 RR conducted search operation in the village Kundalan.

When the forces found nothing, they allegedly entered inside a residential house of Shakoor Ahmad Dar and beat him up, resulting in injuries to him, they said.

The locals said that the injured youth was taken to nearby hospital where doctors referred him to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.

The locals of the area have meanwhile sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner for appropriate action against what they said growing incidents of manhandling people during searches.

An army spokesman denied the allegations and said that army has not beaten anyone in the area. “There is no truth about army has beaten the youth and the allegations leveled against them are baseless,” he said. (GNS)
