SRINAGAR, JULY 10: At least four youth were injured during clashes with the government forces in Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, where a gunfight is underway since early morning.
Reports said that youth took to streets and hurled rocks at the forces deployed in the village following a gunfight. The forces responded by firing live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to chase away the protesters.
A source at District Hospital Shopian said that four injured were brought to the facility. “One of them had a bullet injury in his leg. He was referred to Bone and Joints Hospital Barzulla while the three others were referred to SMHS hospital for specialized treatment,” he said.
The exchange of fire between the militants and the forces was on when this report was being filed.
Clashes have erupted in adjoining Pulwama village as well.
Reports said that Mohammad Ishaq Naikoo, father of Zeenat Naikoo who had joined militant ranks some two months back, suffered a heart stroke soon after hearing rumours that his son has been trapped in the cordon. The rumours, however, are believed to be false.
