SRINAGAR, JULY 06: Authorities on Friday arrested JKLF chief Yasin Malik and placed Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent them from leading any rallies on the second death anniversary of slain militant commander Burhan Wani.
A spokesman said a police party arrived at the Maisuma residence of Malik and detained him.
In a tweet, Mirwaiz said that restrictions were imposed in Downtown Srinagar while he was placed under house detention.
“Restrictions imposed in Downtown Srinagar, #JamaMasjid under seige, crackdown on #Hurriyat leadership.Yasin arrested, I am placed under #HouseArrest, Geelani Sb continues to be under #HouseDetention. Hurriyat activists houses raided, scores of youth picked up & detained by authorities!” tweeted the Mirwaiz.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for Kashmir-wide shutdown and a public meeting in Wani’s Tral on July 8.
