SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12: A top police officer on Sunday said that the hideout of the militants was busted and two of their accomplices arrested during the Batmaloo operation in which a cop was killed and four security forces’ personnel were wounded.
DIG Central Kashmir VK Birdi told reporters that two accomplices of the militants were arrested during the operation. “Jammu and Kashmir Police received an input about the presence of militants in Batmaloo area. Contact was established with the militants during the search operation. A hideout was busted and two accomplices of the militants were arrested,” he said.
He said a militant was also injured in the firefight. “We have received information that a militant has suffered injuries in the initial round of fire. The area has been cordoned off. We are conducting the searches,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in a statement identified the slain policeman as SgCT Pervaiz.
A senior police officer said that the cordon was launched in the area following inputs about the presence of the militants.
While the joint team laid the cordon around the targeted house, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering off an encounter, he said.
The officer said that five forces personnel including four CRPF men were injured during the gunfight, he said.
Besides, the owner of the house Neyaz Ahmad Bhat also received injuries during the “exchange of gunfight”, he said.
All the injured forces personnel were shifted to military hospital where the SPO Parvez Ahmad later succumbed, he said.
The injured civilian was shifted to SMHS hospital here where his condition is said to be stable, he said.
