SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 29: Two militants were killed on Saturday in a gunfight with the government forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.
According to police, the security forces surrounded Hajin Payeen village after receiving information about the presence of militants there.
“As the cordon was tightened, the militants who were hiding opened fire. That triggered an encounter in which two militants have been killed,” an informed source said.
Reports from the area mentioned that the slain militants belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit.
Meanwhile, intense clashes erupted between the protesters and the government forces near the site of a gunfight.
Reports said that the residents, especially youth, came out of their houses and pelted the forces with stones as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area.They said the forces responded by firing tear gas at the protesters.
Meanwhile, police sources said that two militants have been killed so far in the gunfight while at least two more are still trapped in the area.
“The bodies are yet to be recovered from the site of the gunfight,” he said.
