18 Killed After Fidayeen Rams Explosives-Laden Car into CRPF Convoy on Kashmir Highway in Awantipora

Srinagar, Feb 14: At least 18 CRPF personnel were killed and dozens others wounded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday when a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-fit car into a bus they were travelling in, officials said.

The Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the incident, they said. A spokesman, in a statement to news agency GNS, said that Adil Ahmad Bhat alias Waqas commando of Gundi Bagh carried out the Fidayeen attack.

The casualties are likely to go up.

Dozens were injured in the IED blast, which reduced the bus to a mangled heap of iron.

The vehicle was blown up on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Awantipora area of the district, a police official said.

Further details of the incident are awaited, he added.
