SRINAGAR, AUGUST 30: A police officer’s father was allegedly thrashed by cops on Thursday in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

According to a source, Bashir Ahmad Bhat who is the father of sub-inspector Tahir Ahmad Bhat, was thrashed when he was on his way home on his motorcycle.

“He was ruthlessly beaten after he was intercepted by the forces in Nazneenpora village of Tral,” said a family member.

He said that Bhat was beaten after he failed to produce the driving license.

His son who is posted as sub-inspector in Anantnag district said that the policemen on duty thrashed and abused his father for failing to carry a license.

“My father produced every document except the driving license which he had forgotten at home. He told them that his son too is a police officer, which policemen on duty did not like. They thrashed and abused him mercilessly,” Tahir said.

“My father suffered a fracture in his right arm. I went to the police station Tral to file a complaint but they did not lodge an FIR,” he said. “If the matter is not resolved I will take go to the court.”

When contacted, superintendent of police Awantipora, Mohammad Zahid Malik told Greater Kashmir that the matter is being looked into and action will be taken as per law.
