Geelani To offer Friday Prayers At Hyderpora After Release From Eight-Year House Detention

SRINAGAR, MARCH 30: Hurriyat (G) chairman and hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has been released from house detention after eight years. He is scheduled to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Hydepora where he is expected to address a public rally.

His release from house arrest comes after Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief SP Vaid said that Geelani, and other two leaders of Joint Resistance Leadership, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik were free to go anywhere they wish to. He, however, said that their release has been made by the government expecting they don’t create law and order situation or make “anti-national” speeches.

While Mirwaiz will address Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, 88-year-old Geelani will offer the weekly prayers at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora.
