Police Officer Says Five Militants Were Hiding In Batmaloo; Two Were Wounded

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12: A top police officer on Sunday said that five militants were hiding in Batmaloo when the forces launched a search operation in the area early morning.

ADG Law and Order Munir Khan told reporters that the gunfight began around 3 am today when the forces launched searches in Bunpora area of Batmaloo after “specific inputs” about the presence of militants in a house.

The group of five militants hiding in the house, he said, opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenade at the forces’ party, leaving five personnel injured. “One of the injured policemen succumbed,” he said, adding that two militants also suffered injuries in the shootout.

“Two militants were arrested from the hideout. They are being questioned,” he said.
