Six Militants Killed in Two Separate Kashmir Gunfights

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 25: Six militants were killed in two separate gunfights in Baramulla and Anantnag districts of north and south Kashmir respectively on Thursday.

Four militants were killed in an ongoing operation in Kharpora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The gunfight broke out after forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Arwani area.

“Based on a specific information about presence of militants, J&K Police and joint teams of security forces, Army and CRPF launched a search operation in village Athoora of Police Station Kreeri, Baramulla,” said a spokesman.

“While checking one of the suspected houses joint forces team was fired upon by militants triggering an encounter.”

Despite giving numerous opportunities and making all efforts to motivate the hiding militants to surrender, they indiscriminately fired upon security forces with their automatic firearm weapons, said the spokesman.

“In the exchange of gunfire, two militants got killed whose identity is yet to be ascertained. One AK series rifle and one Insas rifle and other arms and ammunition was recovered from the possession of killed militants from the site of encounter.”

FIR has been registered in the instant case and investigation has been taken up, he said.
