Two Militants Killed In Kashmir Gunfight, One Pakistani: Police

Srinagar, Nov 11 (IANS) One more militant was killed in Kashmir’s Bandipore on Monday, taking the number of slain ultras in the encounter that started on Sunday to two.

According to the police, the encounter started late on Sunday afternoon, following a tip-off about the presence of three Lashkar militants in the area in Vijhara area of Bandipore, North Kashmir. It is a joint operation by the police and the Army.

Police statement:

Apropos our earlier press note regarding encounter at Bandipora, it is further informed that one of the killed militant has been identified as Pakistani codenamed Talha.

As per the police records he was operating as commander of the proscribed outfit LeT in the areas of Bandipora and was wanted by law for his involvement in terror crimes and civilian atrocities.

According to the police records he was part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area. Several crime cases were registered against him for his involvement in terror crimes.

Incriminating material including goods bearing Pakistani marks and arms & ammunition have been recovered from his possession. All the incriminating materials have been taken into records for the purpose of investigation and to probe his complicity in other crimes.

Identity of the other slain militant is being ascertained. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
