MP Aga Ruhullah Flags Issue of Alleged Profiling of Kashmir Mosques

Srinagar, Jan 13: National Conference Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday raised serious concerns over what he described as the alleged profiling of mosques in Kashmir, calling it disturbing and unacceptable.

In a public statement, Ruhullah said places of worship should not be viewed through the prism of suspicion and stressed that mosques are central to the religious, social, and cultural life of the people of Kashmir. He warned that any form of profiling or surveillance based solely on religious identity could deepen alienation and mistrust.

The MP urged authorities to respect constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and ensure that actions taken in the name of security do not infringe upon civil liberties. He said peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved by targeting or stigmatizing religious institutions.

Ruhullah also appealed for transparency and accountability, asserting that confidence-building with the local population was essential for lasting normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

His remarks come amid ongoing public debate and concern over the treatment of religious spaces in the Valley.
