Banihal, December 11: The Chief Education Office (CEO) Ramban has suspended a government school teacher for alleged misconduct after he reportedly shared objectionable content on social media, prompting concerns among the local community.
According to an official order issued on Wednesday, Balwant Singh, a Teacher Grade-II posted at Government Primary School Killaseri in the Batote Zone, has been suspended with immediate effect under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956.
Teacher Attached to CEO Office During Suspension
The suspension order states that during the period of suspension, Balwant Singh will remain attached to the office of the Chief Education Officer, Ramban.
The directive has also been forwarded to the Director School Education Jammu and the District Development Commissioner Ramban for information and further necessary action.
The order, numbered CEO/R/2025/32497-500, instructs the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Batote to carry out all required follow-up procedures as per departmental guidelines.
Objectionable Posts Trigger Action
Official sources said the action was taken following reports that the teacher had uploaded objectionable and insensitive content on social media, allegedly targeting a particular community.
The posts reportedly triggered unease among residents, leading educational authorities to act swiftly to prevent escalation and maintain communal harmony.
Authorities Monitoring Social Media Conduct
Education officials in Jammu and Kashmir have increasingly emphasised responsible online behaviour among government employees, particularly teachers who are considered public role models.
Incidents involving inappropriate or inflammatory social media activity have prompted disciplinary actions in the past as well, with authorities reiterating that such conduct violates service rules and damages institutional credibility.
Further Inquiry Likely
Sources indicated that an internal inquiry may follow to determine the extent of the teacher’s involvement and whether additional disciplinary measures are required. For now, the suspension remains in force pending the outcome of the investigation.
