Jammu, Oct 21: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, on Tuesday said that foreign terrorists operating from dense forest areas continue to pose a serious challenge to security forces in the Jammu region. He, however, asserted that sustained efforts are underway to trace and neutralise them through intensified counter-terror operations.
Speaking to reporters after leading a wreath-laying ceremony at the Police Martyrs Memorial near Jammu railway station on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, the IGP said more than 100 anti-terror operations are currently being conducted daily across the division.
“For the past two years, the presence of foreign terrorists has been a major concern. We are continuously strengthening our counter-terrorism and border protection grids. I am confident that we will soon neutralise those hiding in the forests,” Tuti said.
He noted that around 120 counter-terrorist operations are being launched every day — both speculative and intelligence-based. “This is part of our daily routine, reflecting the force’s continuous efforts to ensure peace and security in the region,” he added.
The Police Commemoration Day is observed annually in honour of 10 CRPF personnel who were martyred on October 21, 1959, in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh.
Remembering the sacrifices of police personnel across the country, the IGP said, “The number of our colleagues martyred fighting terrorism in Jammu is only one aspect of our duty. Many have also lost their lives in traffic management, crime prevention, and other service duties. We salute all our brave comrades who have made the supreme sacrifice.”
Tuti also extended gratitude to the families of fallen personnel, reaffirming the force’s commitment to supporting them.
As part of the commemoration, J&K Police organised a blood donation camp at the police headquarters in Jammu, where 125 personnel from different wings and districts voluntarily donated blood. Similar commemorative events were held across all ten districts of the Jammu region, attended by senior police officers, retired personnel, martyrs’ families, and civil society representatives.
