New Delhi, Nov 10: Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror and chaos after a massive car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening left eight people dead and 24 injured. The blast occurred outside Gate No. 1 of Lal Quila Metro Station, a busy area frequented by tourists in Old Delhi.
One eyewitness, visibly shaken as he spoke to NDTV, said he saw body parts scattered on the road moments after the powerful explosion.
“One person’s body was torn into pieces. I saw a hand lying on the road. The blast was so strong that my ears hurt for a while,” the man said, struggling to describe the horrific sight.
The eyewitness added that the shockwave from the blast shook nearby buildings and shattered window frames, spreading panic in the densely populated area around the Red Fort.
Another resident said he saw a huge fireball rise into the sky from his terrace.
“I came running down when I heard the explosion. It was deafening. My house is near the gurdwara, and I could see multiple cars burning,” he recalled.
The explosion sparked a massive fire, with at least 20 fire trucks and several ambulances rushing to the scene. Delhi Police’s Special Cell and forensic teams have cordoned off the area to determine the cause of the blast.
The site of the explosion is just a few hundred metres from Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib and about 1.1 km from Jama Masjid, one of Delhi’s busiest zones. Authorities have diverted traffic from Chandni Chowk and Daryaganj, while rescue operations continued late into the night.
Visuals from the scene show charred vehicles, heavy smoke, and debris scattered across the street, reflecting the intensity of the explosion. Officials said preliminary assessments suggest extensive damage and a high-intensity blast.
