Delhi Blast: Viral Video Shows Accused Dr Umar Mohammad Justifying ‘Suicide Bombing’ as ‘Martyrdom Operation’

New Delhi, Nov 18: Days after the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, a disturbing self-recorded video of the main accused, Dr Umar Mohammad, has surfaced — revealing chilling insights into his radicalised mindset and the ideology driving the “white-collar terror module.”

In the video, Umar, who drove the explosive-laden i20 car that killed 15 people on November 10, attempts to justify suicide attacks by giving them a religious veneer. Speaking in a heavy accent, he calls such acts a “martyrdom operation.”

Umar’s Chilling Words on ‘Suicide Bombing’

In the recording, he says: “One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of suicide bombing; it is a martyrdom operation… There are multiple contradictions and arguments that have been brought against it.”

He further defines the act as one where:“A person presumes he is going, for sure, to die at a particular place and time.”

Sources say investigators believe the video was made to indoctrinate or brainwash others, indicating Umar played an influential ideological role within the module.

Officials probing the “white-collar terror network” say Umar’s detailed justification of such violence reveals he was preparing for a major, coordinated operation, not an impulsive attack.

Umar, a doctor associated with Al Falah University in Faridabad, had reportedly gone missing on November 9, a day before the blast. His disappearance coincided with police raids that uncovered 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a Faridabad storage unit and triggered the arrest of several of his associates.

Originally from Koil village in Pulwama, Umar was described by his family as a quiet, introverted youth who preferred reading and isolation. However, investigators say his behaviour changed notably in recent months:

  • He had been absent from university duties since October 30
  • He frequently travelled between Faridabad and Delhi

These movements are now considered part of reconnaissance efforts.

During the investigation, police discovered that Umar and another arrested accused, Dr Muzammil, had travelled to Turkey, where their suspected handlers are believed to operate. The NIA and Delhi Police Special Cell are probing possible overseas radicalisation, training, or funding links.
